Leviathan
Leviathan (2021) is Rupture's interpretation of one of the most famous images in Western thought: the frontispiece of Hobbes' Leviathan, in which a sovereign composed of countless bodies rises over the land, an emblem of mankind's triumph over the world and dominion over everything in it. Rupture redraws the image in what he considers a more truthful register, questioning the role and influence of mankind rather than blindly celebrating it. Drawn in ink on washi paper over eight months, it is the most densely worked drawing in the artist's practice, made painstakingly, mark by mark. The artwork has been exhibited at the Museum Halle Saint-Pierre, Paris's museum for Art Brut and outsider art, and comes framed.
