Curatorial Commentary

PEPEBRICK was one of the defining cards of the 2016 Rare Pepe directory. MrHansel built a Lego maquette to make it. That maquette became the source image for the card. The card became canonical. This etching is the record of the object that started the chain. Drypoint is an unforgiving medium. The artist scratches directly into the plate; every mark is permanent and every line shows the hand that made it. MrHansel printed this edition of ten himself on Fabriano Rosaspina paper. The plate mark is visible. The toning is part of the work. No. 7 of 10. The Rare Pepe directory turns ten years old in 2026. PEPEBRICK belongs to the founding generation of that history. This etching is the most technically considered physical object that history has produced so far.
