TRANSFORMANATION

In late summer 2011, months before Occupy LA would formally take shape, MEAR ONE was already in the streets. This hand-painted wheatpaste was captured in a photograph of the artist holding it on a Los Angeles highway overpass as Occupy Wall Street was just beginning to gain national attention. MEAR ONE was among the first in Los Angeles to carry the movement's message to the public — an early, solitary act of protest that preceded the organized encampments by several months.
